明朝末年，滿族英雄努爾哈赤經過30年的努力，統一了中國東北地區的`女真人，初步形成滿洲民族，即滿族。他把滿洲人分別組織在黃、白、紅、藍、鑲黃、鑲白、鑲紅、鑲藍八族之中，實行全民皆兵。後來，滿族政權還陸續建立了蒙古八旗和漢軍八旗。1644年，八旗鐵騎入關，佔領北京，席捲大江南北，建立了疆域遼闊的清帝國。
